Thought and learning: Masaatsu Yasuoka, Shoushin Goroku
Thought and learning can easily fall into shallow abstractions and the play of concepts, losing sight of the truth of life and society. Ideologies and moral theories that are detached from reality and truth are not only useless, but also harmful. This is why people have laughed at the benevolence of Song Xiang and the faith of Osei since ancient times.
From Masaatsu Yasuoka, Shoushin Goroku
Song Xiang’s benevolence: Showing unnecessary mercy to an enemy, and ultimately suffering a disadvantage.
Osei’s faith: Sticking to promises once made. Also, being inflexible and naive.
Philosophy and learning are useless unless they are used to solve real problems in society, away from the school.
For example, at school, limiting yourself to criticizing teachers and textbooks, or at work, complaining about the personnel and social situation within the company, but not actually using your hands, feet, or head, is the same as not making any progress.
Starting with the problems of your family, or broadly, facing the problems faced by the entire world and finding solutions, all of these are areas that philosophy and learning can cover.
When observing people, it is easy to distinguish between those who start by criticizing and those who start by making suggestions.
Complaining without suggestions wastes not only your own time, but also the time of those around you.
We should pursue academic studies while being conscious of facing real problems, without falling into the game of thought.
